Burning metal smell in my Caravan? Sign In

Hi y'all. I have a 2003 Grand Caravan with 105,000 miles. automatic. It has started occasionally making a burning metal smell with i drive up hills on the highway. It goes away and doesn't seem to happen when i drive around town, but every so often on the highways, seemingly when i go up large hills, the smell is quite strong. It smells like burning brakes but it's coming from under the hood and happens when i'm not using the brakes. I thought it might be a burning clutch smell but being the vehicle is an automatic i'm don't no that it has a clutch. Anyone have any ideas, i have an appointment with a mechanic next monday. I live in Orange Vermont. Thanks! Zach

Let him examine it as it could be as simple as a plastic bag stuck to the exhaust or many other possibilities. It needs to at least be narrowed down to location first.
