Vehicle: 1996 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 Problem: It was very cold this morning, and as I increased the speed/RPM, a strange clicking sound began behind my steering wheel. I drove back home and parked it, and when I turned off the engine, the key would not come out of the switch and I cannot change gears. Also, when I start the engine, the steering wheel turns completely 360 degrees. Anybody out there have any ideas??

Which engine? The steering wheel turned all by itself? Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

I'm confused. Are the tires turning when your rotating the steering wheel or are you stating you can turn the steering wheel when the column is supposed to be locked? Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Sounds like you have some sort of shift interlock/park lock issue. Does this have column or floor shift? Can you pinpoint the location of the clicking noise? Do your brake lamps work? Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
