Can't open strange hose clamp
|
|
|
Hello, I wanted to begin to fix my air filter on my car and I encountered two hose clamp but can't open them. I tried by pressing both sides (the two parts most on the left) with a plier but could'nt do it, I've watched dozens of video but I can't open this. Could you help me on understanding how ? Thank you :) Here is a photo of the thing : https://ibb.co/Yy2d7kL Opel astra 1998 - Trying to begin to fix my car by myself

Good one different to me also! Appears you pry up one receiving end it would pop and be off. Trouble with BS like that is it probably won't go back on ever or well. It matters but is the size of common "hose" clamps so measure the "fatness" needed and cut those off so it's serviceable IMO only this car isn't sold to the US but a more universal clamp is. Pick one(s) that are more standard bring a socket with you are 5/16th = exactly 8mm so it isn't a pest again. Point the connection with hex (also a slot) is out of the way and where you can get at it without wild antics. WARNING IS NOT TO HARM A THING TAKING THOSE OFF! Don't overtighten any replacement that type crap is so car can be made by a robot would be preset for how tight ONCE on your own after that, T

That is a typical European type clamp. They make a special pair of pliers to unhook them. There is a small tab sticking up that grabs that last slot. The connection has to be compressed and lifted off the tab. Something like these https://www.tooltopia.com/CTA-Tools-CTA4029 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Good one! I'd still change that for something you could do anywhere or anytime but your call, T

Thank you guys, I ordered it, indeed it seems inevitable to use this special plier, I should receive it next week, I will update you, if it resists then I will just change this damn thing ahah! Thanks for the tip to not press it too hard when putting back!

Use the pliers to squeeze the clamp tighter to release the pressure on the tab and then lift the edge of the clamp off the tab. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Hello everyone, With various efforts and the special plier I suceeded to open the clamps and so the air filter where there was so much leaves and dead bees inside ahahah ! (there was indeed a a little part blocking it where you said lift here). Well now I know I can open it and close it, I will soon change the filter. Thank you all for the help. Loïc
