Car Spluttering Sign In

Ford Laser 1997

OK so a few weeks ago i was driving my car and the charge battery light came on. I assumed my alternator was on its way out and kept driving and stopped using the radio and such until i could have a look at it.
I only drive very short distances to the train station 4 times a week but one day a week i do at 45 min drive to TAFE. After about 30 mins of driving i realized the heat gauge was maxed so i pulled over and the car was steaming badly. The radiator had blown.
I have Since realized that the belt had snapped that drives the alternator and water pump. i replaced the belt and filled the radiator back up ( It is only leaking from the top and still holds water) But now when i drive the car and the engine warms up it starts to splutter at low revs when accelerating. Is my car stuffed? what have i done?

I am starting to think it is the head gasket after doing some research.

Re: Car Spluttering Sign In

You're probably right about the head gasket and you are likely looking at a new engine.

Just to let you know, you cannot drive a car with a crack in the radiator, regardless of where the crack it. The system runs under pressure to raise the boiling point. Water boils at 212 degrees and your engine can run at 225 to 230 so you do the math. You will also destroy your cooling system by running just water instead of coolant.
