Car jerks at low speed Sign In

Hi Board,
My car is 2005 Nissan Sentra, 108K, automatic, 1.8S, oil changed 2000 miles before.
I have following problems -

1. The car jerks ONLY ONCE while accelerating from start at a very low speed (10-15 MPH) and after that it never jerks.
2. While accelerating from 40 MPH onwards, RPM goes around 4000 but the car accelerates very slowly to reach 65 MPH. The car looks roaring but speed doesn't increase that fast. But ultimately it reaches 65 MPH and then it is fine except the engine makes little more sound than normal.
3. I can hear a shhhh and whinning sound constantly at high speed around 60 MPH onwards.

Sidenote: I was driving back to my home at an average of 65 MPH couple of days back in the rain and after reaching home in the parking lot the engine light comes ON. I still drove in next two days about 100 miles in clear sun and the light goes OFF.

I am novice in car and practically knows nothing about it.

Any suggestions what sort of repairing needs to be done and what can be the approximate cost?

Regards,
Sandip.

That alone with what seems like transmission is slipping means to me that you need a professional diagnosis. When at especially higher speeds if engine RPMs can go up without speed increase unless tires are slipping it's in the transmission,

Re: Car jerks at low speed Sign In

Thanks Tom.
Tires are very new (< 500 miles). So, looks like the transmission problem.
I am driving like this for last 1 month. Can I wait for another 1 month and then go to mechanic? Little financial problem. I drive 75 miles everyday.
I know it is little hard to tell without seeing the car, but can this be very serious problem like replacing the tranny or transmission? Or, flushing the transmission/tuneup can work?

Regards,
Sandip.

You could only cause more damage doing that.

And what about the engine light comes on after driving in rain and going off without any measure?...Or, I am making a completely wrong guess about the water?

Even if the check engine light is not on right now there still could be a code stored,
Have it scanned.
