Sign In Hello, My car won't start after my winter break of 2 weeks of not using it. This google drive video shows me trying to start it (please ignore the car alarm it's not mine). You can hear a soft humming. It is a honda civic dx with 165,000 miles. I get one insurance tow per year but it'd be nice if I didn't have to use it here. Thank you! Is it in "P" or "N" or clutch pushed down? If a low battery so low as no crank (or noise just a single click) also lighting dims upon attempt. It didn't do that so inconclusive. Try a jump if you wish it may not work? Sign In Hi Tom, Thank you very much for your reply. It was "P" in this video. I will try a jump using a jumper pack then! I will look around and probably uber somewhere to get it. Sign In Video is tough to hear properly if noise is starter or keys moving? When or if a car's starter doesn't do anything especially zero click or dim lights or all goes out battery isn't making contact to starter or too low on charge. Where I was going was a neutral safety switch issue or other to disable it from just "cranking" it will not if not in "P" it might in "N" so try that when that happens. There are other things to do all eventually include using a jumper pack (best) or another vehicle in a real jam just super careful not to harm either. Tug on main wire to starter (bat+) can be a reason for zero reaction also or bad connections at battery. Most would make lights go right out like the wires were cut if starter was trying it would eat up all the power and still do nothing.
