Car won't start in cold weather Sign In

Hi I have a 2009 Chevy traverse with a little more than 89000 miles on it and the last couple times starting up in the morning when the temperature is below freezing it doesn't start. Tries to turn over and then just clicks. Radio and lights still come on and are not dimmed. I didn't want to jump to conclusions and spend money on a new battery if that wasn't the issue. Any help is very appreciated thank you.

1. You mean a "rapid fire" clicking?
Either way know a batter new is rated for CCA, = Cold Cranking Amps plummets when cold vs say about 80F is tons stronger.


Still leaves other things. Clean battery cable connections both ends of each. Next charge the battery with a charger or take it out and have it checked for AMP power after you charged it best is an automatic one that shut off.


Next is how old is this battery they are marked either in code or easier like an D-3 maybe means 4th month = April of 2013 it was known good or newly made that date. It ages just sitting just FYI.


How long is one dependable? Good question but a graph would show it begins to drop off a lot on most after about 3-4 years, some earlier some later.


Yup they got costly since your last one but still if you do don't scrimp get the best you can and charge it first not just let the car finish it new isn't fully charge by most places just another FYI.


Think? 2009 model anything could have be made in 2008 and you've done 2 got good life out of these just anyway IMO no waste to toss it now not get stuck. More bull goes wrong with a low battery limping one along than costs of just do it it's perishable. Many other tests rely on it being up to par totally if not just that,

"Every second or two" is enough. Hi bet guess just get a good new battery you need it too much unless you like walking. Get the charger, small bucks really. If you are doing your own spray the hold-down parts NOW so they don't bust.


Ask about a "memory" saver which allows vehicles to retain info stored in all computers and your settings on things while battery is disconnected. Defeat or don't use interior lights while battery disconnected leave window open and also take bulb or disconnect hood light if applicable.


Oh so happy you will be.
Another #1: Do not allow a vehicle battery to go low or dead even new it harms it they are nothing like devices, phones and things know that.


Funky analogy think of a battery more like a head of lettuce! Yup - it's going to go bad whether you like it or not over time used a lot or not at all they perish so look for dates! Good luck you have to begin there, Tom

How old is this battery?

If it is more than 3 years old you should be replacing it anyway.
