Charger Advice? Sign In

Hello,

I am in the market for my first car, and have been ken on getting a dodge charger r/t.
I found one that is really well priced 24,000$, but of course there is a catch that I was hoping to get some advice on.

The car was originally owned by a rental company, for 8 months before being passed to the dealership where I want to get it from. The Carfax report is clean, and even sais it qualifies for a buy back, althouh I am not sure how that works yet.
The car has just about 20,000 ( remember in 8 months, which leads me to believe that most of the driving was highway driving, like someone got in went from new york to florida, to california and back a couple times. If not, I dont know how you can do that many miles that quickly ).
With the options the car has new, it woud easily be between 33-36000 depending on dealer, place, apr.

So... 24,000 for a Rental Car with 20,000 miles on it. Should I even be considering it?

Most of my friends seem to be very anti rental, becusae they say everyone drives them into the ground, and there will be lots of hidden surprises.

Any thouhts? advice? The best i have to get a mechanic to look at it, but even then... that doesnt guarentee me he find anything with a breif look under the hood.

My nephew bought one from Budget Rental. It is a 98 Grand Prix. He bought it in early 99 and has had no major trouble with it. The company that had it should have all the maintenance records for the vehicle, so I would ask them for the records also. Good luck with it.

Being way2old is why I need help from younger minds

Thanks for the comment, I am glad to hear someone who doesnt have a stigma against a car just becuase it is a rental.
most people seem to think it's not even worht looking at.
I think I am going to check it out, pay a mechanic a hundred bucks or something to come look at it with me and give me a pro opinoin of the mechanics condition.
I will ask for the maintencace history/
And I want at least a 20-30 minute test drive that includes at least a bit of parkway or highway.
I also have to see the detalis about the warrenty and things, but overall i think it's worth checking out.

Thanks again.

There should be some incentive because it was a rental but I wouldn't rule one out just because of that. Like way2old said "get the records" on the car and most dealers will let you even take the car overnite if you are a serious buyer. Good luck with the deal, T
