I have a 97 Eagle Talon that needs a new head gasket. I can't seem to get the old gasket material cleaned off the heads without scratching them. The car doesn't have that many miles and I'm not planning to do a complete rebuild or grind the valves, so I don't really want to take the heads to get machined. Any suggestions?

On the stubborn gaskets I’ve used a couple of different methods to remove it or a combination of both. One is with an aerosol spray that will soften the gasket material like this stuff. The other being an old fashioned razor blade paint scraper; like this one. Take you time; like your fears you don’t want to mar the cylinder head’s mating surface. Dan. Canadian "EH"
