Our church has a 1999 Dodge B3500 van, Base extended model, 5.2L engine. The vehicle is equipped with Anti-lock brakes on the rear only. I think it is a Kelsey-Hayes 325 system but not completely sure. Currently we have both an "ABS" light and a "Brake" light which is the reason for this post. As a little background information, the problem started off intermittently, one day no lights, a couple of days later both lights would be illuminated or vice versa. Lately, both lights are on constantly. The system only has one sensor located on top of the differential. Since this sensor is inexpensive (about $13) and easy to change, we installed a new sensor but that made no difference in the lights. Today we carried it to a reputable independent shop to have the ABS codes read. The tech was using a hand held "Snap On" instrument about the size of a computer tablet. The instrument displayed two codes, "66" and "63". The brief description shown on the instrument was something like this: "66--Main ?? relay failure", "63--?? switch failed to reset" We have not had much success using the Internet to get a better understanding of these codes and how to correct them. It is my understanding that Dodges of this vintage had problems with solder joint failures inside the ABS controller and that may be our problem. There are numerous companies that offer repair service on these controllers where you ship your controller to them, they repair and ship back to you. However before we pull the controller and ship to a repair service, we would like to know more concerning the codes and repairs needed to correct them. Could you share some of your knowledge concerning these codes and actions to correct them? Thanks in advance for your response.

Both codes point toward either an internal problem with the control unit or it's attaching connector. You can try to send it out if you wish but I have never found those services all that reliable. Replacing the unit with a new or used one is usually what I do. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

DTC 66 The abs module didn't detect voltage to the solenoids when it commanded the internal relay on. That code case also set if you don't have power or command to the internal relay. Someone is going to have to do some voltage power and ground testing at the abs module connector before condemning the module. DTC 63 The rear valve reset switch is inside the hydraulic control unit. The abs module sends a voltage to the switch that is monitored. The other side of the switch is grounded. The switch is used to let the ABS module know the hydraulic control unit is going into pressure control mode. If it sees that switch closed when it isn't commanding abs braking, that code will set. With a wiring schematic and 12 volt test light that switch can be checked to see if it working correctly or it has a wiring/connector issue. If the switch is bad the hydraulic control unit need to be replaced. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
