That would be against Federal law and carries a $25,000 fine.

Geymer > there isn't much to remove that doesn't help it run the way it was intended! Leave it OE and "Oh so Happy You Will Be" is the game.

First year for most cars to use a converter was the first issue but back then not now. Leaded fuel ruined them in one tank full so folks did remove those as still most fuel was regular, leaded fuel and even gas stations cheated and put lead in unleaded tanks in the ground so was an early problem to deal with.

Seriously and never mind fines nobody has ever been charged with but what do you think you are going to do that changes a dang thing? Nothing. It's fine as was made for what it is. A then "mid size' car with real frame and a dog for an engine but lasted well.
Advantage to have the converter is it's hotter and pipes will last longer even on this old thing. If you want the power it would have had with the same engine you would have to change out so much stuff like camshaft and specs of hard engineered designs to the last best year, 1972, some 1973s but not many.

Last: Leave it alone. You'll just make it run like crap and fooling yourself it will be better - it won't,
