Expensive Brake Booster Repair Sign In

Hello,

I have a 2005 Ford Taurus SE with ABS. Yesterday (8/15/2009) I took my car to the dealer for its regular maintenance. I asked for my brakes to be looked at because they squeak when I brake (mind you I just had all 4 breaks replace August of '08), a very expensive job ($600.00)! I was told my brakes are fine, but I should have a "brake booster" replacement and the job would cost me $1000.00.

Ford did not have the part (on site), but I told them I would take my car somewhere else and have it done if necessary. I felt they saw me coming last year in reference to my brake replacement, and I would not like to get ripped off again. How much does a "booster replacement usually cost?

Thank you,

Gail50

1000.00 dollars seems a little high. Mitchell has the replacement tims as about 2.6 hours. Part is approximately 150$ dealer cost So allowing for major markup nof 100%, part will be about 300$. Labor at 100$ per flat rate hour will be approximately 260$. So cost will be around 560$. Now that is Mitchell's time. Bu8t it gives you a place to price from. Good luck.

Gail; Can't imagine a brake booster causing a squeak when the brakes are applied. Suggest a second opinion.

Re: Expensive Brake Booster Repair Sign In

I have a 2006 Mustang--6 cyl. The brake booster squeaks. I made a pin hole in that rubber boot on the booster under the dash and sprayed lithium grease in it. It works for awhile. If you are handy, I dont think the booster replacement is a big job. See the Haynes Manual. I may tackle it. Let me know what you did.
