F250 - unleaded into diesel engine! Sign In

2003
Ford - F250 Super Duty V8 - Diesel

Hello All,

Accidently had unleaded fuel used when filling up truck.
1/2 tank was already full of diesel; rest of tank was then filled up using unleaded. Truck was then driven 300 miles. No fail, no noticeable problems.
After that trip, tank had 1/4 remaining. The tank was then filled using Diesel. With that full tank, truck was driven back 300 miles. No issues noticed.

Could someone with knowledge provide their thoughts on what may happen:
Best case/Worst Case
Most likely/Least likely

What should be done at this point? Does anything need to be done?

Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks.

This is pretty much after the fact and too late to prevent anything now. I am really shocked that it drove that far without problems. You may have done some damage but time will tell. Look for some excessive oil consumption, possibly low compression too. I'm really surpried you didn't burn a hole in the piston.

How does it run now and why did it take so long to realize that gas was used intstead of diesel?

First off I'm NOT a diesel tech but have some clue. If I noticed that at the pump I think I'd have had it towed right then to drain the whole tank.

I've heard of folks mixing a small amount and I mean a very small amount of gas into diesel in super cold weather but not HALF! This is cold country and most folks will plug in the common, sometimes standard block heaters when it's cold. Noted at gas stations here they sell a Winter formula and don't know what they did to it?

Other: My guess is now that it done but still some dilution if there has been nothing noticed wrong with the way it runs than you may be real lucky - good time to buy that lottery ticket!
