Faulty EGR valve or Injector on a Torneo Connect? Sign In

Hi there,
I bought a second hand Torneo Connect, 2008 model about 2 years ago. August last year, check engine light and loss of power so the car stopped. The garage I took it to said it was diagnosing errors in EGR valve and the second injector. We changed the EGR valve. 9 months later the same problem, I sent it back to the original garage, they said that a faulty butterfly valve to the EGR was stopping it from working properly, so changed that. Now 3 weeks later, same problem again, Check engine light, loss of power, car won´t run properly. This seems to happen when I´m on the motorways. But since then I have moved cities.
Took it to a different garage in my new city, they say two errors diagnosed: the same 2 as before: EGR valve and injector 2.
I told them the EGV valve was changed and then checked 3 weeks ago.
So they say, send it back to the garage (as it´s still under guarentee for the parts) or change the injector and see what happens.
An injector is an expensive job to do.
I definately trust this garage more than the last one.
The last one claimed they had checked it and it was working...
I don´t know what to think.
I seem to be spending a lot of money on this car this year and am not sure if its worth it.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Many thanks
Anna

This is not a vehicle we have here in the US so we don't have any info on it.

I can tell you though that an EGR valve cannot cause the symptoms you are describing. That valve could be completely removed from the car and you wouldn't know the difference. It's an emission control.

If you have an injector problem it can definitely make it run bad although the valve itself isn't necessarily the cause. It can be anything in the EGR circuit or a clogged EGR passage.

Hi there,
Yes Im in the UK.
So, could the faulty injector be the cause of the engine losing power and stopping?
Yesterday the check engine light came on three times and lost power. I stopped the car, waited for 5 minutes and restarted. This worked the first two times. Then after the third, while the car started, there was no power and the light was on continuously. Could this be the injector then? And why would the diagnostic machine say it was two faults: EGR valve and injector?
Many many thanks!

I didn't say there was nothing wrong with the EGR. I just said it's not the thing causing the engine to die unless you are talking about idle. If it is stuck open it can cause a rough idle and possibly stall but once the car is moving it will have no effect.

The injector issue can cause the engine to run rough and maybe lose some power but it won't make it cut right off.

It's very possible you have a third problem that is actually causing your issue. Not all problems will set a code. You really need a more competent shop to diagnose it.
