Ford Expedition electrical weirdness Sign In

Our 2000 Ford Expedition just started doing some weird electrical stuff out of the blue. When we put the car in gear, the radio power turns off and the power windows will not work. If we put it back in park, it all works again. Does anyone have any ideas what is going on and how to fix it?

Thank!

Not sure if this applies to your vehicle but it sure does sound familiar. Taurus and Sables had a problem with the neutral safety switches or as they’re called now the gear range sensor. It was sending conflicting information to the body control computer and in turn the computer would shut down power windows, radio and on some, affecting the variable rate power steering.
I had a look through the service bulletins and didn’t see this listed for the Expedition but like I said it sure does sound familiar.

Could this have been the battery going dead? The car would not start yesterday morning, so I got a jump and then drove out to replace the battery (I was due for a new one). The car had been acting a bit funny earlier in the week by idling low when the A/C was on while sitting at lights. Everything seems to be working fine with the new battery.
