Front Breaks Lockign Up

I have a 97 Toyota Corolla with 180,000 miles. The front breaks keep locking up on me. I replaced the calipers, hoses ect. but am still having problems. It doesn't do it all the time, but when it does all the parts around the front breaks get extremely hot. The back breaks no not even get warm so i don’t think they are locking. Breaks have been bled properly, plenty of fluid in the reservoir. What do yall think I should do?

That is sounding like either a bad master cylinder or a contamination problem. When the problem is present, jack up the front wheels and see if they both turn freely. When the problem is present, the wheels are locked. I can floor it and never pass 20mph. As soon as I let off the gas im stopped. What do you mean contamination?

If anybody EVER put anything but brake fluid, it would swell all the rubber up and lock things up. What you need to do now is isolate the source of the problem. When the problem is present and the wheels are locked up, jack both front wheels in the air and systematically start at the master cylinder and crack the lines loose checking to see the wheels free up after. If the master doesn't release them, start following the lines to the front wheels cracking every fitting loose as you progress looking for the spot that releases the pressure and that means you just passed the bad spot. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

You beat me Hammer. LOL Contamination means that something other then brake fluid may have been put in the master cylinder; during a top up of the master cylinder. Any form of a petroleum product is poison to the hydraulic brake system. Anything that is made of “rubber” in the system will swell, deform or turn to snot. The first place to look for contamination would be the master cylinder’s filler cap gasket; if it looks all punky and or deformed; you’re into a bunch of work. There are other things that also may cause this; one being the power brake booster’s valving beginning to leak vacuum. Which in turn; would be constantly applying pressure to the brake master cylinder? Something like you resting your foot lightly on the brake pedal, while you’re driving. The next time you feel the brakes holding; disconnect the large vacuum hose the goes to the brake booster and see if now the car rolls freely. Caution; do not try driving the car with this disconnected; other then for test purposes. You’ll only have maybe ¼ of the braking power. There are other things and places to go to find the problem but lets start with what Hammer Time and what I’ve suggested for now. Dan. Canadian "EH"
