I have a 2001 Kia Sportage SUV. Lately it started sputtering and loosing power especially going up hill. Today I was going up a hill and I lost complete power, and the car shut off. Now The car will turn over just fine but will not start. I disconnected the hose from the fuel filter (Tank side) and tried to start the car and no fuel came out, and the filter felt empty. I suspect it is my fuel pump but have read a lot about a “fuel relay” problem as well. I attempted to find the fuel pump access in the rear of the vehicle but despite everything I have read, it is not there. Any suggestions?

Supposedly the access panel is in the rear cargo area, underneath the carpet mat, and is held in place by screws which need to be removed. If you still don't see it, note the fuel tank's location and then look closer to there inside the cargo area. Here's a general DIY guide you can refer to that might be of use.

Hope this helps out ;)
