Fuel pump prob.. '99 F-150 Sign In

I recently had a new fuel pump put in my 99 Ford F-150, 4.6 liter, 125,000 miles...after the old one failed...It has been running fine, but yesterday It wouldnt start...The engine cranked but the Fuel pump was not running...So I tapped the bottom of the gas tank with a rubber mallet, and the truck started right up. What could cause this intermittent condition with the fuel pump?? Thanks guys

Those are classic symptoms of a bad fuel pump. If you didn't use a Motorcraft pump, that's not surprising.

To add to that:

If you had metal or other garbage laying in the bottom of the tank from the old pump or whatever, it might of took out your new pump. The sock doesn't filter everything.
