I have a 1998 Elantra 1600cc that surges when hot. I have just done a service on it, Plugs Oil and both filters and it started this problem. Runs perfectly fine when cold. I have also now changed the plug leads to no avail. Any ideas Please. It aperies the problem was an incorrect air filter, car seems to be running fine now fingers crossed.

Check engine light on? Scan for trouble codes. What kind of plugs and wires did you install? Did you back track to see if you had left something disconnected of installed improperly? Does the engine feel like it loses power during your surge. If it does, that would be more of a misfire. A misfire would be considered more of a bucking sensation. Surging would be a like someone is slowly pushing and releasing the gas pedal. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
