Jasper Engines Sign In

I am thinking about getting a remanufactured engine installed in my Dodge van, early in 2009. The engine is a 318 Magnum. I was wondering if anyone on here has installed a Jasper Engine in their vehicle. I know that they are more expensive than most, but they also have a 3yr./ 100,000 mile nationwide warranty. What do you all think?

Thanks, i also like the fact that they fire, and test the engines before shipment.

Jasper is an excellent rebuilder. You will be getting a motor as good as a crate motor from the dealer, but without the inflated price. We use them all the time at my shop with no problem. Have never changed one due warrenty. If you need a motor this is a great choice.

Re: Jasper Engines Sign In

We bought and installed three Jasper motors into customer's cars. The third one had to be warranteed (piston). What a nightmare. They finally warranteed the engine, but only paid us (I think it was) $40./hr for labor which we had to eat the difference. I wasn't all that upset with the labor part as I was fighting with them over the claim.
We switched to Marshall Engines. Much better warranty, price comparable, and from what I've seen so far, better quality. (no warranty claims, yet). Oh, and excellent customer service. Had a customer supply his own engine from Marshall. He gave them the wrong year..Subsequently, it had the wrong cam reluctor wheel. They supplied the correct one for free (next day air) and didn't charge him a penny.

Re: Jasper Engines Sign In

Of course I'm watching and interested in this as a way out of total engine wipe outs and so far have only dealt USED whole engines - last one now looooong ago but had 100% luck - the place you deal with matters of course.

Loren - What in the heck could be better than the 3yr/100k warranty that is listed for the Jasper?

What do these cost in general and include what? I was getting whole new (not rebuilt) marine chev 350/260HPs for about a grand delivered about 10 years ago - all were for others when I was into the boating thing and they swapped them so I don't really know how those worked out. Marine of course basically means brass parts (freeze plugs) and should use inserts for exhaust manifold bolts as those are routine service for salt water boats.

What do you get included with most of these also?

Re: Jasper Engines Sign In

I'll have to check, for sure, tomorrow when I get to work. I'm pretty sure they are 5yr/100,000 mile. They are long blocks. You can buy the 'package' that comes with water pumps, belts, hoses, ect., but is cheaper to buy those locally. I'll email you the info. They may be on-line as well. Haven't tried that.

Re: Jasper Engines Sign In

Tom, i inquired about a 318 Magnum from Marshall Engines. They will be getting back to me on the price. Their warranty is 3yr./100,000 mile. You can purchase extra protection for the engine. I am looking forward to seeing their price. Jasper engines quoted me a price of $2724 for the engine. As you know they have the same 3yr./100,000 mile warranty. I have seen them for $1200 dollars, but only with a 12,000 mile warranty. I do not trust these builders. If the rebuild is done right, they ought to be able to offer a better warranty in my opinion. I am just looking for the best engine to purchase, because we love the van and don't wanna get rid of it. I guess i'll just have to wait and see what Marshall says, and if it's a nationwide warranty. As we sometimes like to take road trips. Thanks.Smile

Re: Jasper Engines Sign In

Thanks for the info. This is great to know should the situation arise. There's a huge rebuider right nearby that's been is biz for a long time now but all I hear about is the disasters that come out of that place! Like my buddy Artie Johnson from the old "Laugh In" show would say..........

Thanks,

Tom

Re: Jasper Engines Sign In

And again, my memory fails me. I was so busy today, I forgot to check on the Marshall warranty. I think, if you pay the extra 10%, they extend the warranty to 5ys/50K?

Re: Jasper Engines Sign In

Tom, i just found my quote today. Marshall told me that i could get the engine cheaper from the local distributor in town. Marshall had the distributor call me today. I can get the 318 Magnum through the distributor for right at $2000. That is $724 dollars cheaper than Jasper. Both engines have a 3yr./ 100,000 mile warranty. The local distributor in town has also been using them for the last 10 years. Just thought i would give you an update. Smile

Re: Jasper Engines Sign In

Also for light cars and trucks, and trucks up to one ton, the warranty is a nationwide 36month/100,000 mile.

Re: Jasper Engines Sign In

Just about 24hrs late, but you are correct. I'd recommend buying the extra "no fault" warranty. When you are spending that much, what's another $200?
