Jeep Fuel Gauge Help Sign In

1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Yesterday I put in half a tanks worth of gas and then I drove to get some food and when I got back in my car to crank it the gas gauge showed empty....completely empty! I drove home and recranked and still same thing BUT I discovered if I turn my key backwards first then crank it, it works and shows me the correct fuel level...but if I do a normal crank it shows empty. Any help?

The first thing to do in most all electrical problems is to check all fuses with a test light. Then check connections .

You need to take it to a repair shop.

Re: Jeep Fuel Gauge Help Sign In

This is an electronics issue that is way beyond your capability and is probably some kind of communication issue with the dash cluster. An inoperative gas gauge is dangerous in itself but other functions in the dash cluster could fail also.
