Looking for cruise control diagnostic page

Greets, all - I just picked up a 2001 Mitsubishi Spyder in great condition. About the only thing that's not working is the cruise control. I've checked the brake lights, brake switch and the vacuum line to the carb and all is well. So, apparently it's the vacuum pump, the module or the actual switch. I'm pretty handy with a wrench and know how to use a multi-meter, so what I need is a diagnostic page that'll walk me through the testing so I can nail the problem down. Any suggestions, gentlemen? Thanks, Chuck

Manual trans or auto? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Sorry it took a day to get back to you. For some reason, the forum software didn't notify me there'd been a reply. As for "manual or auto trans", the correct reply would be "neither", heh. In Mitsubishi language, it's a "semi-automatic", since you can do that goofy "manual shift without a clutch" routine. Must have looked great on the drawing board, but it's hard to believe anyone would actually use it -- at least, more than once. So, it's an auto tranny in that regard. It's also starting to appear there isn't a cruise control diagnostic page out there. I first tried the Mitsubishi forum and got nowhere fast. Then I spent a good hour on Google yesterday and ditto. Then I figured maybe an auto site dedicated to car electrics might be the ticket and ended up here. As far as the Haynes & Chilton manuals go, they just say "bring to an authorized service center". BIG help, guys. So, any thoughts on your part would be appreciated. Chuck

Forget the marketing hype. It doesn't have a clutch, it's an automatic. The first thing you have to do is have the Cruise control scanned for stored codes. You will need a high grade, professional scan tool for that. From there you may need a wiring diagram but that is 3 pages.

Okay, thanks for the feedback. I'll see if I can dig up a fix-it shop that'll just do the diagnosis and tell me what's wrong. I'm handy enough that I can certainly replace any of the parts. Chuck

Being "handy" doesn't always go very far in today's technologies. Repairs aren't always just a matter of replacing parts.
