Manual Transmission won't reverse

My 99 VW Jetta will not shift into reverse. As a matter of fact the first gear is acting funny as well. Help!

Could be one of two things:
Either the little plastic piece of the shift linkage is broken, or just needs adjustment. If you want to do it yourself, suggest you get a manual (Haynes, etc.) for your vehicle and read up on that section (transmission linkage) before going in blind and working on it.
