My Car Won't start

Hi everyone! I have a 85 chevy celebrity with a 2.8 fuel injected.. My problem is that the car will crank but it won't start. The fuel injection is fine. The timing gear is fine. I just replaced the plugs-wires and cap and rotor. Any body know what else it could be? The batery is good also. Could it be the o 2 censor? Or maybe the ignition coil? Please help...I am a very frustrated woman. You can IM me at moduir@yahoo.com. I'm gonna loose my job cause of my doggone car!

Hi, It's less likely to be the coil but who knows. It would be real helpful to know if you have spark. Don't lose your job over this so if need be get help locally soon! T

Have someone spray some carburetor cleaner nto the throttle body on the engine and try to start it. If it starts, look to a fuel delivery problem. As Tom stated, we need to know if there is spark or not. There also are some fuses that may have blown. Look under the dash to see if ECM 1 and ECM 2 fuses are good. Good luck. Being way2old is why I need help from younger minds

Hey guys, Well I can honestly say-the car dies!!!! UGH! Wish I could bury it! At any rate, there is spark. I thought I might have fixed it but alas it is still in a coma! New cap and rotor, new starter, fuel lines are good and new fuel filter, full tank of gas, oil clean, o2 censer good, wires good, fuses all good, new ignition coil. I am at the end of my rope! Is the timing gear and chain a possibility? I have taken care of everything except that. When I try to start the car it s trying so hard to start. It is turning over but won't start. I'm trying not to start it too much because I don't want to foul the plugs by flooding with too much gas. Guys, I need a hero. I called a mechanic today and the idiot told me he had to drop the whole engine, change the brushes in the trans mission-yes the transmission, then he tried to tell me that the timing gear had it's own clock! lololololololol I guess he thought I was stupid or something. He said it would cost at least 3 grand! I can get the timing gear kit and gasket for about 56 bucks, and they (O'reilly's) will rent me a harmonic balancer puller for 80 in which I get back when I return the tool. Any way if you guys have any advice or anything at all please let me know before I make my car walk the plank!

The 2.8 should use a timing chain and they last fairly well. We still need to know if you have spark or not. To test you can pull a plug wire, put a screwdriver in the wire, hold the metal of the screwdriver near engine ground metal real close and look for the spark as engine cranks. Yes you could get a shock and if you are not up to that buy a tool to detect spark. Gotta know before we can move on, T

Aloha I would try banging on the fuel tank verry hard ( big big hammer ) while a helper trys to start the car ( just keep banging and keep cranking ) this will dis lodge the brushes in the fuel pump-- you may dent thr fuel tank but no biggie. Aloha and A Hui Hoi Keoni@IceHouse.net

Just another suggestion, are you sure the plug wires are re-installed in the correct firing order?

i wood first do a compression test spark test injection pulse you can have spark but no injection pulse and no a o2 sensor will not keep it from starting and if it is turning over just not igniting then it is not the starter
