I heard a pinging sound when I pulled into my driveway today and found this lying there when I went back to check. I'm not even sure if it's from my car one end looks like it's been cut. Any ideas? Thanks. I have a 2004 Pontiac Sunfire.

Appears like a stabilizer pin end or ordinary shock absorber top end piece.
I'm not so sure it's your car either but might have flown into something that made noise and now you can see it free like that shouldn't be making the noise.
If you know what a stabilizer bar with rubber booted ends to place stabilizer bar from one side of your front end to the other and it's all there it's NOT yours and forget it unless it damaged something on your car.
I catch junk from lousy roads or see it all the time just driving around but wouldn't likely see that small item,

Nothing came thru and picture went away??
This should show. This is a new one that fits your car.........
Those go to lower control arms to a bar, rubber isolated and your picture looked like the nut, hex washer shown and the rubber stuck to it. Not all use a hex washer, it's a part that does break off and could have been picked up just flow up, perhaps bumped around something in yours and really should have fallen out for that pic and no more noise as said or something was harmed by it getting there.
If yours broke they clunk, rattle on bumps may come or go on turns and should be clearly in sight as broken,

That's what it is and it is from your car. I said they make noise - one side usually breaks - other stays intact and the broken remains can make assorted noises.
The rusted bolt has a sleeve that will be stuck and pest to remove the good one which isn't good either now to get out without cutting them out.
Still had where I got the picture. IDK $6.99 ea. set I think so not price issue but a pest as said. IMO you can wire tire anything swinging out of things it can hit on most and be fine if exactly that to drive till you replace BOTH.
Your call as you do need to hoist one side, then the other for assembly of new which is fussy without a couple floor jacks at least AFTER old ones totally out. Real common and a "while you wait" repair for most techs/shops who will charge full price for the parts and still not expensive or really shouldn't run into hassles.
In short - yours is broken so noise likely will continue till done,

PS: If you can totally bust of the broken one it will quit making noise and can't bump into anything to cause any harm. 99.9% of careful driving you wouldn't notice they weren't working.......
