No temperature reading Sign In

Have a 2007 chevy cobalt that on digital display has --- for coolant Temp. reading.Have already replaced temp. sensor and connecting wiring,had to disconnect battery to reset and within a day went back to --- for reading.What else could be the problem?

Is this the ambient outside temperature display? If so, you'll probably need to have a high end scan tool connected up to read the BCM datastream to see what outside temp voltage is. The BCM transmits the outside temperature information to the instrument cluster over the vehicle's network.

Your still going to need to get hold of a high end scan tool to look at datastream information. Depending on which engine you have either PCM or the BCM sends coolant temperature information to the instrument cluster. Knowing if the BCM and/or PCM is seeing engine coolant sensor voltage, will determine which way you should go. You can probably also scan those modules to see if there are any trouble codes stored that might give some clues. Because this system uses computers and networks, it almost impossible to troubleshoot without the proper equipment.
