Oil leaking after repair

This came to my PM from autowhat Sorry , I don't see how to even post a thread here, after reading your request for people to do that. I have a question I need to ask. I had a water pump, timing belt, valve cover gskt , serpintine belt replaced . Since this , there is a slow OIL leak coming out from the bottom of the the plastic water pump cover. It was not there before this. I have been told they should have also changed the oil pump and cams(?) and checked the pvc valve (or something like that) They refuse to fix it , now saying it is an old car, and the leak could be the crank shaft or oil pan gasket, or something, and they wont do anything to fix it. It was NOT there before the work above was done. I am wondering if i am being unreasonable to expect them to fix, it, if I should try and get my money back, or walk away? I also wonder if they did something to cause this problem, since he said " I guarantee there will be more oil leaks' , after he fixed it. I also wonder if this will get worse and harm the car in some way if I keep driving it like this. They are making out like just because it is an older vehicle with high mileage this is to be expected. I think they just don't want to take the time to fix it right. It is a honda hatchback civic, 1986, 198,000 miles, 1.3 engine Thanks Being way2old is why I need help from younger minds

If i'm not mistaken could the water pump runs off timing belt right?.. could cause issues especially if oil is leaking on timing belt could be a number of things valve cover, cam seals, crank seals or oil pan gasket. I don't know if i've seen a 1.3 just assuming its near the same a 1.5L.

They replaced the valve cover gasket. Sounds like they screwed it up somehow. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Thankyou for answering, you seem to know the most, so far . Do you think it is going to cause more damage if I drive it until I can get the money to have someone else look into it? I can't tell.

Yes, you could get oil all over the timing belt and have to replace all of that again.

Hate to be the one to say it but it looks like you're a victim of nothing more than bad timing..replacing a water pump on those hondas really shouldn't cause an oil leak..unless the valve cover gasket isn't properly seated..you might want to try tightening the (4) 10mm cap nuts that hold the valve cover down.but don't snap em off by over tightening em .Thats easy to do. good luck.

Don't bother. You'll just bend your valve cover from over tightening. If the cover is leaking, it's because it was installed incorrectly and will have to be removed.
