I drive a '93 Nissan Maxima GXE
My friend showed me how to launch off the line
use the first and second gear shifts manually
is this bad for this model car?
I'm not sure if this is even a full on semi-auto car
or if theres another reason for the 1st and second gear shifts?

a week ago I wanted to pull out and so I did my manual shifts
my car just shut down on me and wouldn't start
took it to a shop payed 170$ for them to replace some wire
and all was fine and dandy
so I thought..
today I did the same thing
thinking nothing of it
and sure enough
the same EXACT problem happened

it cranks over and all but
just won't start

Well, if you paid for repairs and its the exact same thing that occured after you did this, then look at your receipt/invoice to see what was repaired/replaced.
Then, look into that for your repair.

Now,with that said, don't listen to your friend.
There is no need to do this to LAUNCH this vehicle off the line.
The automatic transaxle will shift as designed when it needs to.It will start out in the proper low gear and shift as designed.
By doing this ,you can cause major problems (expensive)...
I agree that its FUN to launch off the line and shift ..if you feel the need for that, get yourself a vehicle with a manual transmission and have at it!

If you can get your hands on an owners manual for THIS vehicle, read how to properly use the 1st and 2nd gears when needed.
