Pontiac Montana cranks slowly

Hi, I have a 2003 Pontiac Montana with around 120,000 miles on it. In the last two days it started cranking very slowly. I have put a new battery in it but it still cranks slowly. Any ideas of how I should proceed?

Measuring the starter current draw should be the next step. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

You will need a digital voltmeter with with a high amp probe.

Okay,, Got a digital voltmeter but I'm not sure about the high end prob... I'll have to check that out. Thank you.

Don't use the amp scale and amp lead position to measure current draw with your meter. Don't think the fuse can take it. You need an inductive amperage clamp to measure the vast amounts of current that a starter motor uses as HT stated. Other than that you can do a voltage drop check on the battery cables to see if you have high resistance in the cabling causing your slow starter. http://www.freeasestudyguides.com/voltage-drop-test.html Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
