Power steering failure

If I have a loss of power steering on a road trip, would it be okay for the car if I kept driving? Aside from the possible safety issue of the stiff steering, I’m wondering if there would be any further damage to the car that would necessitate my pulling over, or would it be okay if I waited to reach my destination or a repair shop?

If the lose of power steering is from a fluid leak and the system is empty then there is a good chance of burning out the pump if ran for any length of time. The fluid that makes the power assist is also the lubricant for the system. Dan. Canadian "EH"
