Hello, thanks for reading! My '97 GMC Jimmy 4.3 L automatic has approximately 144,000 with an engine with approximately 70,000 miles on it. Since replacing a fuel pump about 10,000 miles ago I have had intermittent problems starting the car. Whenever the car is very warm...for instance if I drive 3-5 miles to a place, run in and then come back out in less than 10 minutes...the car simply won't start. The ignition switch will engage but it will take several tries before the car starts. I don't seem to have this problem at all when the car is cold (e.g. first thing in morning, after 8 hours at work, etc.). Could this be a solenoid problem, straight problem with the starter? It's the timing of the issue that has me a little confused. TIA.

Could be the starter. Not uncommon for t he starter to have trouble only when hot. Dose it just click once when you try to start it or dose it do nothing at all? Jeff

Actually it will sound like the starter is trying to engage, almost like a starter with a "bad spot" that needs to try and turn over a few times before it will engage.

Did you change the fuel filter?

If the starter is not completely engaging, I would agree with Jeff that the starter is the problem. However, I would look at all the teeth on the flywheel when the starter is removed. Being way2old is why I need help from younger minds
