Question about an accident Sign In

Hey guys I wanted to see if you guys could give me an idea of how much it would cost to repair some damages to a car. A couple nights ago, my girlfriends car was parked across the street and In an effort to get up my icy driveway I backed up and hit her car. I hit her passenger side door. She has a 1997 Saturn SL2. There is damage to the rearside passenger side door (the door behind the driver seat). She doesn't have power windows or locks. When I hit her car, pieces of her the passenger side door broke apart. I am guessing it shattered was because she has plastic doors. Also some black thing by her tire is hanging by a thread. So I guess what I am asking is doesn't make sense to try and just replace the door panel? and how much would it cost? Let me know if you guys need anything else for a rough estimate.

Re: Question about an accident Sign In

Two possibilities:

1. Insurance from your policy may pay for the damage without blaming YOU or causing a surcharge IF ice was to blame and they agree with that - ask your insurance about that - start with an agent.

2. If you must pay for the repair you probably will do better to replace the door as a whole, good used unit. If safe to use as it is now ask a salvage yard to find one and state the color - you might get one and not have to paint it if a popular color. Paint is expensive and not DIY friendly!

Is all the damage contained to just a door? If beyond that it will take some professional work. Just swapping the door will probably take some experienced help as well,

I was actually just curious as to how much you think it would cost to get a repair shop to fix something like that...just a rough idea.

Depending on just what and how a good door ding can cost a few hundred bucks no problem! There's no way I could estimate what this would cost. Body shops would likely give you an estimate and a salvage yard a price for a door with just a call.

Last whole door I replaced (I'm not in auto body repair) was $600 for a same color door with $200 bucks at least of that was for overnite delivery as it was needed for use the next day - a limo!
