Rattling when in gear on Maza Protege.. Sign In

I have a 2002 mazda protege 5 with 155000kms on it. Over the past..well probobly 2 months now, there is a rattling when I'm sitting idling in gear with the brake applied, it goes away when I put it in park (or at least its alot more minimal) I assume its the exhaust system, but could it be something specific? Originally I thought It may have been rock or ice (I live up north) but it doesnt seem to be the case. Last year I had some issues with my emissions and coil packs, and ended up damaging my catylic converter, are these sounds possibly the converter giving out?

Thanks!

I'd recommend getting it on a lift so that it can be checked from underneath when the noise/vibration is doing it's thing.
Could be a motor mount allowing the engine to shift ever so slightly. (doesn't take much). If the engine is misfiring, it will be much more noticable when in gear vs. park or neutral. It is entirely possible that you could have rattling internals in the catalytic converter, but should be able to diagnose when on a lift, in gear.
