Rear Drum Brake Adjusters

2004 Corolla 85,000 miles 1.8 ltr 4 cyl Auto trans the passenger rear drum brake adjuster seems to constantly over tighten the brake. the wheel still spins, but has alot more rolling resistance then I prefer. Ive adjusted it back off several times but it keeps tightening back up. The drivers side keeps its adjustment to my liking no problem the adjuster and springs on the suspect drum look fine and are free moving/no binding any ideas? __________________________________________________ 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee 2002 Ford Ranger 2004 Toyota Corolla 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1

? Any chance this has two right side adjusters? Not sure what this drum brake uses for self adjustment but somehow I think it's back ass-wards. If this car is exposed to tons of backing up that might be the problem if hard stops in reverse. Check owner's manual, some of these are adjusted by playing with parking brake? T

The adjuster can't be the wrong one or it would be loosening instead of tightening. The shoe has to have a specific amount of travel in order for the adjuster to grab a notch. You may have an irregular wear problem in the shoe or the drum causing it but I wouldn't be overly concerned if it's not overheating. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

That's right - it would loosen if wrong side. Are parking brake cables nice and free? T

yea the brake isnt overheating, its just a little tighter then i prefer.......whoa that sounds bad lol. Ive gotta pull the drum off and take a second look at the friction surfaces since i was so concentrated on the adjuster __________________________________________________ 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee 2002 Ford Ranger 2004 Toyota Corolla 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1

The wheel hoisted should coast when spun by hand IMO. Take a hard look at the show in comparison to side without an issue and see if something is amiss. The wheel cylinder itself might not be allowing the shoe/shoes back to "home" position. Check that they under the return springs really do fully return on their own. Hardware (strength) of return springs might not be adequate to fully retract the pistons in wheel cylinder, T
