What do you do when you follow all the directions to repair the rearview mirror and it doesn't hold? My car sits outside, and the weather where I live has been very warm one day and very cold the next. I bought a rearview mirror repair kit and followed the directions. The mirror held for about 48 hours. Then I got in the car to go to an appointment this morning, and the whole mirror had again fallen completely off the windshield. Is there an advanced repair kit that actually holds more than 48 hours? Where do I find it? I don't have much money to spend, and I need for the mirror to stay in place when I have to go somewhere.

Re: Rearview auto mirror Sign In

You may have just bought a bad/old mirror kit?
It happens to us every once and awhile; you do everything they describe in the instructions and it doesn’t stick worth crap?

All I can say is get another kit, maybe a different manufacturer’s kit and try again.

A few things about doing this; is clean, dry glass is the most important thing. Scrap the area with a razor blade, so that there isn’t even the slightest bit of old glue. I then clean the glass with whatever type of glass cleaner I have on hand and then wipe the area with rubbing alcohol.
This is all before I even open up the kit and use their product for prepping the window.

You’ll get the best results with a warm dry windshield; during the winter here; I’ll start the car and let it run with the defroster going, to warm and dry the windshield.

Question; you are taking the part that’s glued to the window, off the mirror, right? Waiting for at least the prescribed time before you hang the mirror back onto the windshield?
I usually wait for a half hour before I try hanging it.

Keep it fun and good luck on your next attempt.

Re: Rearview auto mirror Sign In

We have waited up to 24 hours if the weather is on the hot or cold side. Usually have real good luck with them
