My mechanic is rebuilding a 4.7 HO jeep engine 2002 grand cherokee.
Had block cleaned. Heads rebuilt. Installed engine and had valve knock. pulled engine back out and checked heads. Had droped a valve and broke piston. Rebuilt heads again. fixed piston. Put engine back in and valves knocking. Have 8 push rods and rocker arms. first on on each side is oiling 2nd one oneach side not oiling 3rd on on each side oiling, 4th one not , 5th one oiling 6th one not, 7th very little oil, 8th oiling. we are going crazy trying to figure this out. have pulled engine 4 times. Can anyone help? thanks

I am confused - pushrods? I thought an OHC engine in 02.
And I think HT has this set up...IDK

Right Gaskets. This is third set and headbolts purchased' Checked to be sure. Good oil pressure. even blocked up block and got 60 #s of pressure.

Sorry I am not the mechanic. I am trying to help him get these answers. He has been building engines 50 years. It has overhead cams

HT is my colleague here -Hammer Time and I think he owns an 02 GC with 4.7L
from service manual....copy and paste
Due to the orentation of the rocker arm, the camshaft intake lobes are not lubed in the same manner as the exhaust lobes. The intake lobes are lubed through internal passages in the camshaft. Oil flows through
a bore in the number 3 camshaft bearing bore, and as the camshaft turns, a hole in the camshaft aligns with the hole in the camshaft bore allowing engine oil to enter the camshaft tube. The oil then exits
through 1.6mm (0.063 in.) holes drilled into the intake lobes, lubricating the lobes and the rocker
Might explain the every other one lubricating.

I am HT,
Yes, I have an 04 with an HO 4.7
If he has been building engines for 50 years, you aren't going to resolve it for him.

Thank you for the information. I will pass this on. He is very knowledgeable on rebuilding . this is the second 4.7 he has rebuilt. Third motor he has rebuilt for me. All his contacts dont seem to want to work on this 4.7 engine. So it is confusing. Thanks again . Looking forward to more info if you can.
