Remote starter issue

Hello. I have a remote starter on my Civic. Its worked fine for six years. Now when I press the start button the car cranks but won't start. The remote is not in valet mode, the lock/unlock buttons work fine, the hood is closed. The car starts fine manually with the key. I even placed the key in the ignition and tried the remote but it didn't work. Any ideas?

You probably need to contact the manufacturer of the remote start system. We wouldn't have any info on an aftermarket system. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Thanks. I've contacted them and I'm waiting for their reply. Their manual provides very little in terms of troubleshooting. Remote starters are great when they work but are a pain to troubleshoot.

They are actually very high tech so you have to have a deep electrical understanding of the systems to even be able to install one.

Yeah there's a lot going on when you energize one of them. There's very little on the Internet in terms of do it your self because of the complexity of the system. I just hope its nothing serious when I take it to the installer.

Unless it's an installation issue they are probably going to advise just replacing the whole unit. Nobody repairs these things.

Is this an auto or manual trans?... If the system has failed, then it will probably need a new unit... A few things you could check would be to make sure the brk light is coming on when you put on the e brk... If the unit doesn't sense the e brk it won't start (usually won't crank, so I guess that isn't a good sign) Also make sure the theft light isn't flashing while it's cranking,, The factory alarms need to be defeated (bypassed)... Once again, if this was a problem it probably wouldn't crank or start and die... but it still wouldn't hurt to check them... manuals have a few more hoops to jump thru to arm,,,but just go back and triple check all the steps...
