Hi there, My lovely dog decided to chew through the drivers' side seatbelt of my 2005 Volvo S40. It is just the belt itself that is damaged, and I was hoping someone might be able to tell me what my best options would be for replacement. Is it possible to just replace the belt and not the whole system? Am I likely going to be able to replace the seat belt myself with the airbags and the seatbelt alarm system, or is this something that really needs to be done by a mechanic? Any suggestions on the best place to get replacement parts? Looking forward to hearing any suggestions that any of you may have! Thanks in advance.

You're not going to be happy with the answer to that. You're only option would be to order a complete belt assembly from the dealer in the color you need and pray it is still available. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

If the dog chewed through the seat belt, you have to replace the entire belt with retractor assembly. I'm sure it isn't cheap because it has a explosive seat belt tensioner that is controlled by the SIR system incorporated with it. You might be able to find one in the salvage yard, if you can find one that hasn't gone off, but when it comes to safety I suggest getting a new one from the dealer. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

You must check the warranty first. Several places told me that some seat belts come with a life time warranty.
