Shifter stuck in Park

Hi everyone! Thanks for taking the time to help. So here's my problem - I was pulling into the driveway and putting my car into park. When I did it felt kind of funny - and I noticed that even though my shifter is in the park position, the vehicle is still in neutral. Now I can't get the car to shift out of Park! Any ideas what is wrong? 2001 Ford Escape XLT 3.0L V6 ~120,000 miles

Obviously, something has broken in the shifter mechanism. Nothing but a visual inspection is going to tell you what. We can answer specific technical question but we are not Psychic. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
