The timing belt snapped on my 08 Kia Rio LX a few days ago. After it snapped I turned it on a handful of times to try and diagnose the issue.

I currently have a mechanic saying he can change the belt, tensioners, pulleys, water pump, and possibly the valves.

I don't personally know this guy so I would pretty much have to take his word for it.

He quoted me 250.00 for labor and I buy the parts.

Should I let him fix it? I've read that there's almost a 0% chance that my engine is shot shot.

Can an interference engine be repaired after the timing belt snaps?

Anything can be repaired if you have enough money.

It is totally impractical to repair yours though and here is why.

Changing the valves requires removing the cylinder head and sending it out to a machine shop and doing a complete valve job which will, with the mileage you have, require new valve guides, seals and resurface the head. This in itself would likely run close to $2K. Now the problem you will have then is that the increased compression created by the valve job will create major stress on the lower end that still has 160K miles and will likely blow up shortly after or at least start smoking.

This guy does not have your best interest in mind or he would be recommending a used engine rather than dumping all kinds of money into this one at extreme risk.
