Something stuck in car window?

Hi all! First post as I can usually find an answer via google, but the keyword "stuck" is bringing up stuck windows -- not something possibly stuck "inside" the window. Story: about a month ago my driver's side power window of my 06 hyundai sonata got stuck when putting it up. There was an ever so slight grinding noise, but it sounded more like something is stuck in there rather than motor issues. We finally got it up, but I could only roll it down about 5 inches. I've lived with it, I just couldn't go through the drive thru. Recently it made a slight grinding noise again and it seemed like something "popped". It went down a little more than usual. However, when getting it back up, I now can't open it any more than about 1/4 inch. It seems like the motor is fine -- it really seems like something is stuck in there, stopping it from going any further. Is this something I might be able to fix myself, and can anyone think of what it might be? I'm a single mom and currently unemployed. We are just in dire straits right now so can't afford a mechanic. I'm not a mechanic but I'm pretty sharp and I've done random fixes on cars before, just not the door. Any help or guidance is incredibly appreciated. Thanks all!

By all odds you need a power window regulator with the motor. Most all of them will run a belt thru the motor's gear and can strip out would allow for moving window a little or totally without the motor turning or motor you might hear and window doesn't move. It can take some know how and tools (rivets frequently) to do this with door panel off. It's sometimes possible to replace just the belt. I can't know any of this for sure nor can you till more checking is done probably with panel off looking right at it. You really need a mechanic/shop if just for tools I doubt you have or can rent. You can YouTube how this is done and look up the cost of a window regulator for that window which is YOUR DIY cost not what shops would charge unless you made some agreement. No harm in asking, finding out what is in stock. Final determination will be when looking right at things with panel off is the time to just do it then. Some might only take total 1-2 hours tops with all the tools if nothing else is wrong. Meantime - quit using that window before it falls down inside the door where you wont be able to pull it back up! With door open if you can move glass both hands one outside, one inside of glass down a bit without touching switch it's trouble now and likely to fall down hence quite using it or maybe tape it up before that, T

Nothing uses a replaceable belt any more. Most of them are wire cables and pulleys now and not repairable. Most of the aftermarket units are also combo units that automatically come with a motor also. I agree that is the problem though. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
