Stumped. Sick Civic.

2002 Civic LX Coupe won't start. It all started with a flickering battery light and an occasional loss of power. Still ran ok for the most part. Had it looked at. Its an old car and came back with a laundry list of typical old car problems but nothing in need of urgent repair aside from the alternator. It was overcharging the battery and causing chaos. Boyfriend replaced it and a corroded ground wire. Car ran great... felt like new but only for a few days. While driving, waiting at a stoplight on a hill, it just gave up on life. Shut down all together and wouldn't start back up. There's power to the car... windows, headlights, radio, but no turnover. Not even a click from the battery. Nothing. Replaced the battery on a long shot. No luck. There's no life, no action, no spark from the positive connection. Any ideas?

Check all the main fuses/fusible links in the engine compartment.

Thanks for the reply. Tried replacing the 80/battery fuse last night... no difference. But I suppose it could be any number of them. Any way to know if they're blown without replacing them one by one? Visually they look ok.

If you have access to the contacts while the fuse is in place you can use a test light. If not, they can be removed and tested with an ohmmeter.

Thank you. I'll give it a shot. Fingers crossed, that would be an easy fix. Still open to other ideas / suggestions in the meantime.

This isn't a matter of different suggestions. It's a sequence of events that has to take place. After this it's going to require some electrical testing and knowledge and understanding of electrical circuits so it depends if you have that ability whether this goes any further.

Got it. My boyfriend is pretty confident when it comes to mechanical and electrical stuff, and I in him, but I'm sure there's a limit to his knowledge and ability depending on how complicated things get, as you're suggesting. This is a starting point though. I don't want to pick your brain too much but if the fuses are ok, what would the next step be? You don't have to go into too much detail, hopefully another step won't be necessary but its a long walk to the auto parts store and it would help to have an idea of the potential course of events.

If the fuses are good, then we pull a wiring diagram and start tracking power through the ignition switch and beyond.
