Tire Size Question
Have an old '96 Subaru Outback which runs great. Needs winter tires - have set of 4 available - real nice - one size smaller than recommended though. Is there a safety issue using them ? We do no highway driving - just 18 miles a day..just for minor commute. It would save us about $300 which right now matters. Just don't want to put my family in any peril. Thanks !

What are both sizes exactly? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

205/70/15 is the current size. The size of the replacements would be 205/65/15. Thanks so much !

That tire is shorter and will make the speedo off some and probably use more fuel.

But any direct safety concerns - load bearing blow outs ? Serious ABS issues etc ?

Nothing serious if all four are changed and identical. Check your clearance because they are a bit wider.
