So I have a 2007 trailblazer. this morning I started my car, it sounded like it was struggling. It also said I had no gas, I know I had 1/4 tank. Started to drive to the gas station and it went back to normal, showed 1/4 tank. Filled it up just to be on the safe side. Went to work, everything was fine. On my way home, the dashboard gauges went to 0. No gas, speedometer, nothing. Then my radio stopped. It was still running but it wasn't accelerating properly. I pulled into a parking lot, turned off the engine and tried to turn it back on, but it wouldn't start. Someone jumped me, took a while but it finally turned on. He said it's probably my alternator. I drove the car across the street to a mechanic and while driving, it was very jerky. The place was closed so I left my car and keys there.

Can anyone tell me why this happened? I just want to be prepared for the cost. Any information would be so helpful!!

It is possible the alternator isn't charging for some reason. If the alternator doesn't charge, the electrical system will suck the battery dry. Usually when the battery voltage gets less than 8 volts, weird things start happening with the electronics. Be sure they charge the battery and test it before they conclude the alternator is bad. When we test something like that we put the old battery on the charger and put a test battery in the vehicle to check the charging system performance. Pretty sure the shop will figure that one out.
