My truck is a 1988 Ford F-250 5.8L with 260,000 miles on it. Automatic transmission The problem I am having is when cold starting the truck it starts fine except it will not shift into drive. Reverse works perfectly. When the truck runs for a few minutes it will shift into drive with no problems. After warming you can turn the truck off and back on and it shifts perfectly it goes smoothly through all gears and never slips out of drive. I have checked fluid levels and they were fine. The color and smell of the fluid was good also. What could possibly be wrong?

Stefan; Fords use a 'screen' rather than a real filter in the transmission. I'm not a trans. expert, but sounds like a pump issue. Stay away from the 'chain' stores (IMO), and get a couple or three diagnostics at trans. shops. Talk to friends, enemies, BBB to try and find a reliable/honest one. Loren SW Washington
