I took these pictures after we repaired a mistake that one of my techs made, during a lower intake manifold gasket replacement.

1999 Chevy Venture van with a 3.4Lt V6

Such a simple thing that cost us approximately 6 hours labour to remove the cylinder head, have the valve replaced and install a new push rod.
Along with having to buy a second new intake gasket set, one head gasket and exhaust manifold gasket.
This tech has performed a number of these intake jobs and has done them flawlessly; why he did what he did, is a mystery to me as well as him.

Quiz time; who can tell me what he did wrong to do this damage to the valve train?

You Chevy guys, give the Ford guys a chance to think this one through. LOL

I wonder why #3 cylinder doesn’t have any compression. LOL

OMG - Dan!

Gotta inspect that tech's tool box. NEVER, NEVER, use a push rod to stir cocktails on the job, LOL!

Great pics. I really don't have a clue - stuff happens as we know. Bet the Vay-Cay is looking better by the moment!

You bet yea I’m ready for some time off; it’s going to feel so good standing on white sand rather then the cold snow. LOL

im gunna take a jab at it......something fell into the cylinder head intake runner???

Push rods are two diffrent sizes. Put long one in were a short one goes and BANG! Bent valve.

Yea that’s what he did; exhaust push rods are 6.074” long, intakes are 5.68” long.
I always get the guys to use a push rod rack to keep things in order; which he used but he must have had a dyslexic moment and from the rack to the engine he switched them.
What did Forest Gump say “it happens”?
Just thought I’d share this little experience; man did my guy feel bad when we figured out why the engine was running so bad.
The customer wasn’t very impressed but seemed to understand what had happened and that it was an honest mistake that we made right.
Just goes to show you being up front and honest with your customers always pay out dividends.
We shook hands; he paid his bill for the intake gasket and asked when he should come back for the van’s next servicing.

Dang it, Jeff. I wanted to be the winner. We made the same mistake, ONCE, but didn't do any valve damage. Guess we were lucky? So, Jeff, what's Dan gonna give you for a prize?Wink

He did mention something about maple flavored Maker's Mark. Hmmmm.
That was a great reply, btw. Honesty is always 'The best policy'. You treat customers right, you have them for life. Screw em once, you'll never see them again.
