I am driving a 2008 (I think) Chrysler 300 which has been overheating recently. The engine was recently changed to something Dodge, but I don't know what. My bf worked on it this weekend and thinks he fixed the problem (not sure what he did) but told me to be careful with it and watch the temp gauge. He said if it goes over halfway, I should pull over and let it cool down. The engine isn't registering anything wrong until it gets all the way up and then the car just dies. I just drove about 3.5 miles to work. The gauge went up to about a 1/4 pretty quickly. My bf did have the car running earlier this morning for a little bit to check it out. By the time I had gone about 2 miles, the gauge was halfway up and it remained there until I reached my destination. I have to drive someplace about 20 miles away in a few hours. Then the car will sit for about an hour and I will drive 20 miles back. I am wondering if it is safe to drive or if the fact that it went up to halfway on such a short ride means there is a problem. I do not know where the gauge usually sits/is supposed to sit, and I am not able to contact my bf. Thank you.
