1998 Ford Taurus 6 cylinder 129000 I am going to have to replace the cat converter on my car, I was wondering where is it located and is it difficult to replace by a muffalor shop? Am I also correct that it is illegal to not have a cat converter on your car?

Your car likely has more than one converter but they will all be built into the front exhaust pipe (Y-pipe) and that will have to be replaced. This can be done by most any reputable repair shop including exhaust shops. Yes, it is against Federal law to eliminate the Catalytic Converter. It would be impossible to do on your car anyway. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
