I have a 1997 GMC Sierra 2WD 4.3L V6 single cab truck. It has 101,000 miles on it and I just had the automatic transmission rebuilt one year or 3K miles ago.
I noticed a strange whistle only during acceleration and only at high speeds (i.e. over 50mph or so). It sounds very similar to a diesel turbo, which is strange because this is a gas engine without a turbo. It sounds like it is coming from the engine or transmission area.
Does anyone know what this could be?

Most time when theres a whistle sound it a vacuum leak, use wd-40 on the engine, around the intake,vacuum hoses ,throttle body.....it might help you locate it.
