air bag light on colt

Hi, I own a 2006 mitsubishi colt 1300 cc 60,000 miles Air bag light is lit all the time. If I turn the passenger bag off I get an indication on the dashboard saying so. The light is still on. With the passenger bag turned on the dashboard indication of passenger bag off goes out but the small indication of a seated person with a ball on his lap stays on all the time. I don't know which bag it is referring to? Is there possibly some other reason for the light to stay lit or is it most likely I have an air bag fault? Is there any other test I can do ? Thanks. Bob.

You'll need to have the air bag controller scanned for trouble codes to figure out why the controller is turning on the air bag lamp. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

is there a computerised air bag controller in a 06 colt? Would a garage generally have the equipment to do that?

We don't have the colt here in the states, but I can pretty much guess with confidence that there is an electronic control module that controls and monitors the air bag system. You should call your particular shop and ask if they can diagnose and repair air bag problems. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Of course there is. All air bags are controlled by a computer. Most reputable shops have the equipment and software needed to scan an airbag. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

I got a check on a computer this afternoon and a few indications were stored and cleared but one was active and failed to clear. I understand it was something wrong with the drivers bag and the steering wheel, there is a short on a squib or clock spring. The person I spoke to just passed the message so was unable to help me more. I assume this is in the wheel housing. does anyone know if this could be investigated by removing the covering for the wheel and perhaps just cleaning the spring? Or is it going to be a new part? If I clear the fault would the indicator light go out or would I need another visit to the computer? thanks. Bob.

So, you just cleared all the codes without recording anything? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

I got a garage to use their equipment, The person I spoke to afterwards just gave me the results and knew nothing more. since my last post I have looked up squib on e bay and found pictures and other information about purchasing one, is it possible it could be fixed, saving me around $60 or would I have to purchase a replacement? Would the indication clear if that was the problem or would I have to get the garage to clear it with the computer.

You just erased all the diagnostic information you had so I don't know what to tell you.
